Kandy flanker Jason Dissanayake has paid a heavy price for putting his club over country as the 25-year-old has been dumped-out of the Sri Lanka 7’s setup.

The former CR speedster who had withdrawn himself from the first leg of the Asia Seven Series stating personal reasons, claimed to have travelled to U.A.E with Kandy Sports Club leaving the National Rugby Selection Committee and the coaching staff fuming.    This appears to have ended whatever the chances Dissanayake had, to be included in the second leg scheduled to be held in Korea later this month.

The Chairman of the Sri Lanka National Rugby the Selection Committee, Rohan Abeykoon has informed Sri Lanka Rugby: “In the light of this development, the National Rugby Selection Committee together the  National Sevens Coaching Staff will not consider him (Dissanayake) for the selection of the Asia Seven Rugby Series.”    The former Vidyartha rugby star could face further punishments as a senior official of Sri Lanka Rugby has called him to be banned from the domestic tournament as well.

“As recommended by the Chairman of selection he should not be considered for National Selection. Further more I request all the council members to look at this matter with concern as other selected players would also follow same while being selected for National selection. Not just a national rugby ban, but I also recommend a domestic rugby ban as well as a fine,” the National Selection Committee has been instructed by SLR.
