Life-2-1Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris, who accompanied former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to India, said that the interaction with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was meant for laying strong foundation of goodwill.

Prof. Peiris told a news conference that Mr. Rajapaksa was seen as a SAARC leader, and it was clear from the visit.

“It was all over India,” he said.

He said there were posters everywhere announcing the public lecture delivered by Mr. Rajapaksa. He said Mr. Modi stressed his friendship with Mr. Rajapaksa, which even preceded his appointment as the Prime Minister of India.

“In bilateral relations, there will be issues. It is not possible to agree on everything. Basic requirement is to lay a strong foundation of goodwill,” he said.
