A slight change in the prevailing hot weather is expected in the south-western part of the island, the Department of Meteorology said yesterday and forecast a slight increase in the windy conditions during the next few days.

It said showers were expected in the Western, Central, North-Western and the Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

“Fairly strong winds of up to 40 kmph can be expected over the island, particularly in the Hambantota, Monaragala, Matale, Matara and Batticaloa districts,” the Met Department said.

It said some places in the central hills had slight showers with the highest rainfall of 28mm recorded in Nuwara Eliya.
