Met Department issues heat advisory

The Meteorology Department yesterday issued a heat advisory stating that the temperatures in the Eastern Province and some parts of Polonnaruwa, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts could rise to between 39 degrees Celsius to 45 degrees Celsius during the next few days.   

 

It said the temperatures could rise to cautionary levels and warned that prolonged exposure to the sun could result in fatigue and heat cramps.   The Met Department said showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Uva and Central Provinces and in the Batticaloa, Ampara and Ratnapura districts after 2.00 pm while a few showers may occur in the Galle and Matara districts.  It said the temperature in most parts of the country was high yesterday and reached 37 degrees Celsius in some areas in Polonnaruwa while in Vavuniya it reached 36 degrees celsius Anuradhapura 35.2 degrees C, Maha Ilupullama 35 degrees C and in Moneragala 35 degrees C.
