Former defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday gave a statement to the FCID in connection with the alleged misappropriation of government funds to build a monument for his parents at Weeraketiya.

Mr. Rajapaksa arrived at the FCID at 9 a.m. and left three hours later.

He reported to the FCID on the basis of an undertaking given to the Court of Appeal on June 14.

A museum containing a collection of items used by the late D.A. Rajapaksa and his wife Dandina was declared open at Medamulana in 2014.

The FCID is investigating allegations that some Rs.60 million belonging to the Urban Development Authority had been used to put up the museum during the Rajapaksa regime to mark the 47th death anniversary of D.A. Rajapaksa.

The FICD questioned Mr. Rajapaksa on several earlier occasions on this matter.
