Labour Dept. commences raids on child labour

The Women and Children’s Affairs Division at the Department of Labour commenced raids and awareness programmes on child labour islandwide from yesterday in line with the World Day Against Child Labour which fell yesterday, Ministry of Labour and Trade Union Relations said.  


The programmes are carried out under the instructions of Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations, Ravindra Samaraweera and added Districts and Divisional Secretariats of respective areas will accompany the programmes.   
The main objective of this programme is to make sure that children are secured and then to eradicate child labour from Sri Lanka.   


This programme would first identify the places where children are being used for labour and take legal actions against such venues.
